REGISTER NowRegistration instructional Video

To help in our planning and aid in our ability to create efficient routes, we ask that all registrations for the new school year be submitted by Monday August 16th, 2021. Registrations received after August 16th, 2021, will not be processed until October 2021.

Before you can register for busing, ensure that you are registered in your Schools Student Administration System MyEd BC.  Most students are in the system, however, if you are new to the area, you may want to check in with your school.

Please understand registering your student does not reserve a seat for your student on the bus, rather provides the transportation department information to determine the service level requirements.  Students who qualify for busing for school year 2021-22 will receive their busing information via email about a week prior to school start-up.  Students who do not qualify for busing will be notified immediately via email.

Families will be able to pay transportation fees online, beginning at the end of August. If you have not already done so, you may register for online payments through your school website or at abbotsford.schoolcashonline.com. All discussions regarding busing fees should be directed to the Abbotsford School District's Finance Department at 604-859-4891 or by email finance [at] abbyschools.ca.

Transportation of Students To and From School

The purpose of this procedure is to define the circumstances and conditions under which transportation to and from school will be provided for Abbotsford School District students and to outline the special circumstances where the district will provide parents or other providers with financial assistance for transportation costs for students. This section sets walk limits for catchment and out of catchment students, and provides guidelines for student conduct, supervision, and discipline.

Bus Safety Plan

Information on what our Drivers and Transportation Department are doing:

  • Buses are being cleaned and disinfected according to the BCCDC's Guidelines on Cleaning and Disinfectants for Public Settings document.
    • Buses will be cleaned and disinfected between routes, meeting, or exceeding the BCCDC requirements.
    • Additionally, our buses are disinfected daily using Electrostatic Sprayers which ensure the highest level of sanitation is maintained for our students.
    • Each bus is scheduled for a week deep clean by our drivers
  • Bus drivers are required to clean their hands often, including before and after completing trips. They are encouraged to regularly use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol during trips.
  • Bus drivers are required to wear a non-medical mask, a face covering, or a face shield (in which case a non-medical mask should be worn in addition to the face shield) when they cannot maintain physical distance or be behind a physical barrier in the course of their duties.
  • Plexiglass shields either are or will be installed enclosing the driver’s compartment.
  • All staff complete a Daily Health Assessment form prior to entering the Abbotsford School District work site, declaring that they have no symptoms of COVID 19.
  • All drivers and employees must adhere to the School District’s Safe Work Procedures for Staff – COVID 19.

Rules for Students Riding the Bus

  • Parents and caregivers must assess their child daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory diseases before sending them to school. If a child has any symptoms, they must not take the bus or go to school.
  • Students should clean their hands before they leave home to take the bus, when they are leaving school prior to taking the bus, and when they get home.

Loading/Unloading of Students

  • Students must follow the bus driver’s instructions related to loading, unloading, and seating on buses (e.g. back to front and offloaded from front to back).
    • One student at top of the stairwell, before the next student boards.
    • Use assigned seating only, unless otherwise advised by the driver.
  • Students must physically distance prior to getting on a bus at stops, as well, once they exit the bus in the school area.
  • Students load and go directly to the back to an available seat, working their way forward filling seats, to avoid passing other students on the bus.
  • Unload from the front first.
  • We will also be maintaining up-to-date passenger and seating lists. The seating arrangement can be altered whenever necessary to support student health and safety (e.g. accommodating children with a physical disability, responding to behavioral issues, etc.).
  • We will share this information with public health officials should contact tracing need to occur.

Non-medical Masks

  • Middle and secondary students should wear non-medical masks or face coverings on buses. These should be put on before loading and taken off after offloading.
  • Reusable masks will be provided by the school district to all students during orientation week September 10 & 11.
  • Bus drivers will have disposable masks available for times when a student has forgotten or misplaced their reusable mask.
  • Masks are not currently recommended for elementary students on buses due to the increased likelihood they will touch their face and eyes, as well as required assistance to properly put on and take off their mask (requiring increased close personal contact from school staff).
  • No student is required to wear a mask if they do not tolerate it.
