Neufeld steps aside as Board Chair

February 12, 2024

Korky Neufeld, the current Chair of the Abbotsford Board of Education, has advised his colleagues that he will be stepping aside from the top governance role, effective January 31, 2024. This leadership transition follows Neufeld's recent declaration to run for the Conservative Party of British Columbia in the Abbotsford West Riding in the upcoming Provincial election cycle.

While Neufeld will relinquish the duties of Board Chair, he will continue to serve as a School Trustee for the Abbotsford Board of Education. His tenure as Chair has been marked by a strong commitment to the district's strategic plan and advancing education in the community.

As per Board Policy 5, Preet Rai, the current Vice Chair, will temporarily oversee the responsibilities of Board Chair.

The nomination and election for the vacant Board Chair position will occur at the next Public Board Meeting scheduled for February 13, 2024, using the same process as the annual Organizational Board meeting.
