Celebrating Years of Service: Chauntel Ewert’s 30 Years of Making Learning Fun

April 9, 2026

For 30 years, Chauntel Ewert has supported students across the Abbotsford School District, helping them build confidence and discover that math can be engaging and enjoyable.

What do you love about what you do?
I really love helping students feel more confident, especially in math. I struggled with math growing up, so I know what it feels like. I try to make math fun and less intimidating so that by the end of the year, students feel like they can do it and even enjoy it.

In what ways has the Abbotsford School District supported you in your career?
The district has supported me through professional development. When I first started, it was mostly Pro-D days, but now there are opportunities all the time, including self-directed learning where I can explore areas I’m interested in.

How has your teaching evolved over the years?
I started in elementary school teaching everything. When the district moved to a middle school model, I was hesitant at first, but I’ve really enjoyed being able to focus on certain subjects and improve my lessons with each class.

Do you have a favourite memory from your time in the district?
The most meaningful moments are when former students come back and remember the activities we did together or tell me they enjoyed being in my class. Over the years, I’ve also coached basketball for about 25 of my 30 years in the district, which helped me connect with students in a different way. One memory that stands out is receiving a bouquet of flowers from a former student who wanted to thank me for making learning fun.
