She graduated from the French immersion program in Abbotsford, and now Madison Hendry has returned to the same school district to teach in French. Canadian Parents for French (CPF) BC & Yukon is pleased to recognize the grade 8 Chief Dan George Middle School educator with its 2023 Teacher Award.
Since 1992, CPF BC & Yukon has been proud to offer a financial award of $2,000 to one or two university students completing their post-secondary education studies and planning to teach French (immersion, intensive, core, or francophone) in BC or Yukon.
The Abbotsford School District’s Summer School Program at the Mamele'awt Indigenous Centre concluded the last week of July, celebrating a successful initiative that provided 25 students in grades 9-11 with an enriching hands-on learning experience immersed in Indigenous culture and heritage. The program, which ran from July 4th to July 28th, offered an innovative approach to education with a focus on land-based learning.
While the summer months typically signal a break from classes, many Abbotsford School District's sites have been bustling with activity as the Information Technology and Facilities departments diligently worked on a series of transformative upgrades and projects. These initiatives exemplify the school district’s unwavering strategic commitment to optimized resources and engaging opportunities.
Students, families and staff can look forward to school improvements in Abbotsford that include a completed seismic safety upgrade this year.
“Our government is committed to building, expanding and upgrading schools throughout B.C.,” said Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care. “As more families make Abbotsford their home, the addition of 360 new seats in Abbotsford schools is good news for this growing community.”
