A Season of Warmth, Welcome, and Pancakes Across Abbotsford Schools
As the holiday season approaches, schools across the Abbotsford School District are finding meaningful ways to bring students, staff, families, and the community together. One of the most beloved traditions is the Christmas pancake breakfast, a simple idea that carries a powerful sense of belonging and care.
This year, a visit to John Maclure Community School offered a glimpse into what these mornings represent. Students were welcomed with warm pancakes and hot chocolate, served with smiles and conversation. The atmosphere at Dr. Roberta Bondar Elementary also reflected the joy and connection that define the season with live music by Mr Berg (an ELL teacher) and a queue of children lining up to see Santa.
Across the district, nearly every school hosts some form of holiday breakfast or seasonal gathering. Each one looks a little different, shaped by the people who make it possible. In some schools, community partners step in early in the morning to prepare and serve meals. In others, Parent Advisory Councils organize volunteers and supplies.
These breakfasts are about more than food. They create space for conversation, connection, and care. They remind students that their school community is invested in their well-being and that many hands come together behind the scenes to make these moments happen.
From small gymnasiums to Santa photos in the library, Christmas pancake breakfasts reflect the generosity of families, volunteers, staff, and partners across Abbotsford. Together, they help make the season brighter, one shared meal at a time.
