2018 Election Information

Are you interested in becoming a School Trustee?

Seven elected trustees make up the Abbotsford Board of Education. They are responsible for:

  • setting the strategic direction for the district that meet the needs of students, and reflect community wishes;
  • adopting an annual, balanced budget that achieves district strategic priorities;
  • making and enforcing policies that set out standards and expectations regarding the actions of administrion, teachers and students;
  • hiring and evaluating the Superintendent of Schools;
  • adjudicating policy or staff decision appeals;
  • attending board meetings and contributing to the business of the board.

General Local Election

The 2018 General Local Election will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018

Section 37 of the School Act requires that the City of Abbotsford conduct the school trustee elections for a trustee electoral area within a single municipality. Therefore, the Chief Election Officer of Abbotsford will adminster the election of the seven (7) trustees.

New Rules for the 2018 General Local Election

The local Elections Campaign Financing Act has been amended to change the campaign financing rules for local elections in BC. For further information, visit Elections BC.
