School Strategy for 2021-2022

Toti:ltcha will continue to serve as a framework for our school district as we navigate this school year. Our strategy is developed around the key features related to health, safety, teaching and learning, and detail what families, students and staff expect in schools and sites across the district.

Guidelines & Resources

On August 24, 2021, the province announced that students will return to school in September 2021 and we can look forward to full-time, in-person learning and resuming sports, music and other extracurricular activities. Mask requirements and other health and safety measures will remain in place to continue to keep schools safe.

Daily Health Check

All parents, guardians, and/or caregivers have the responsibility to conduct a Daily Health Assessment of their child(ren) each day before sending them to school. The K-12 Daily Health Check website and app is an easy way to decide if your child should attend school based on their symptoms. It includes current health guidelines and is available in multiple languages.

School Exposures

The Fraser Health Authority manages the notification process for possible COVID-19 exposures in our schools. In September 2020, a school exposure dashboard was established for Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools in the health region. The dashboard provides timely & accurate information for parents, teachers, staff and students about COVID-19 cases in our schools as they occur and details about the school notification process.

Our ventilation systems will continue to be inspected quarterly, where our teams will do an overall physical inspection, including changing the filters. A HEPA unit will be installed to ensure the air is changed frequently for the few classrooms and areas within our buildings that rely on natural ventilation. Families who have concerns over air quality or ventilation are encouraged to bring them forward to their school principal. Staff who have concerns over air quality or ventilation are encouraged to bring them forward to their JOSH Committee.

At the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, District staff went to every site and did a review of ventilation for classrooms. In September of this year, the District completed an audit of the ventilation filtration system operations for the Ministry of Education.
