Rapid Antigen Testing

The emergence of the more transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19 has required changes in public health management. With higher levels of community transmission and a shorter virus incubation period, contact tracing and close contact notification by public health are no longer effective in minimizing the spread of COVID-19. However, the Ministry of Education announced that it would be distributing Rapid Antigen Tests to all staff and students. Below are test kit directions and important updates.

IMPORTANT: On February 24th, Health Canada issued a public advisory rapid antigen test kits and potential exposure to hazardous substances. Families are reminded to keep rapid antigen test kits and solutions out of the reach of children and pets.

Ventilation

Our ventilation systems will continue to be inspected quarterly, where our teams will do an overall physical inspection, including changing the filters. A HEPA unit will be installed to ensure the air is changed frequently for the few classrooms and areas within our buildings that rely on natural ventilation. Families who have concerns over air quality or ventilation are encouraged to bring them forward to their school principal. Staff who have concerns over air quality or ventilation are encouraged to bring them forward to their JOSH Committee.

At the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, District staff went to every site and did a review of ventilation for classrooms. In September of this year, the District completed an audit of the ventilation filtration system operations for the Ministry of Education.
