Blue Jay wins Fraser Valley Reading Link Challenge

Students from Blue Jay elementary took home the wining title from Wednesday’s Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) Reading Link Challenge!

The Reading Link Challenge is an award-winning public library/school partnership program that promotes the "sport of reading”. Librarians from the FVRL work with school librarians and teachers to recruit teams of six students in grades 4 and 5. The program is run as a series of quiz/trivia challenges, with questions based on six preselected books. All teams participate in one or more levels of challenge, with the winning teams advancing to higher levels of competition within the community.

Over 94 schools in the Fraser Valley and 430 teams signed up in the fall to participate in the FVRL Reading Link Challenge. Of this, 35 students were from Blue Jay elementary.

On Wednesday night, the Blue Jay Book Bombers took home the first place spot in the competition, which took place at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Langley, beating out the other schools in the Fraser Valley.

Next up for the Book Bombers is the Grand Challenge event on May 3rd in Surrey, where the top two teams from the Fraser Valley and the Lower Mainland will competite.

Congratulations to the winning team (Nimrat Hare, Puneet Khaira, Paramdeep Brar, Keerat Sidhu, Danveer Ahuja and Govind Mann) and coaches (Mrs. Tammy Tran and Mrs. Evelyn Van Egmond)!
